Accessibility

Accessibility at PlaySolitaire

Solitaire should be calm and easy to follow. These controls can make the game clearer to see, easier to operate, and less distracting.

Our scope: This page describes current product behavior. It is not a certification or a promise that every browser and assistive-technology combination will work perfectly.

Adjust the table

Visual and motion settings

Your choices are saved in this browser and apply across games.

  1. 1

Open any game and choose Settings from the game menu.

  2. 2

Use Accessibility, which appears first in the panel.

  3. 3

Turn on the controls that help you. Changes take effect immediately.

Reduced motion

Minimizes motion when you turn it on and respects your operating system’s reduced-motion preference.

Text size

Offers small, standard, and large interface text.

Card size

Offers a ten-step card-size control on larger layouts, capped at the largest size that fits.

Stronger card highlights

Makes selected and hinted cards more visually distinct.

Targeted contrast boost

Increases contrast for muted text and card borders.

Play without dragging

Keyboard controls

One Tab stop enters the game board. From there, these controls work across the playable game families.

Use the arrow keys to move across the board.
Enter
Activate the focused card, pile, or destination. With 1-Tap Move enabled, a card may move immediately.
Esc
Cancel the current board selection or close an open dialog.
Space
Draw or deal when that action is available in the current game.
HURF
Hint, Undo, Restart, and Focus mode.

Shortcut availability depends on the game and its current state. Shortcuts do not take over while you are typing or using a control that owns the same key.

Names, updates, and focus

Screen readers and dialogs

Named cards and piles

Interactive cards and piles expose names so they are not presented as unlabeled controls.

Move feedback

During keyboard board interaction, selection, completed-move, invalid-move, and cancellation updates are announced through a polite status region.

Dialog focus

Game dialogs move focus inside, keep Tab focus within the dialog, close with Escape, and return focus when closed.

What to expect

Known limits

  • The card-size control is hidden on phones and in short landscape layouts, where cards use a fixed fit.
  • Some actions and shortcuts are available only in games that support them.
  • Screen-reader behavior can vary because the board uses application-style keyboard interaction.
  • We have not certified every browser, device, or named screen reader.
